Our surroundings
Our inn is surrounded by the characteristic landscape of the medieval village of
Pignone which is only a few kilometers far from the
Cinque Terre Natural Park.
Pignone is formed by the union of many villages which create the Pignone and Casale valleys.
Here you will find a chemist's shop and a postal office.
In the most important points of the village you will find informative panels in different languages ( Italian, English, German and French ) conceived to give tourist information to visitors.
At the entrance of the village you will immediately admire the characteristic Ponte Vecchio dating back at the 300 b.c.; going on the way you will reach the Marconi square, surrounded by buildings of the sixtheenth century together with the Santa Maria Assunta Church ( fourtheenth century ), which has recently been renovated so that it can show the magnificence of the paintings of its ceiling dating back of the ninetheenth century.
Very suggestive is also the aqueduct bridge with the nearby Calzetta mill.
Not far from our village it is also possible to visit two small Karst caves, one of which is the most complex of the whole area of La Spezia; in fact, you will be allowed to do it only with the help of speleologist groups.
These caves lie on the
trail number 6 of the CAI
together with the limekilns of Pignone, which can be visited as well. Not far from here you will admire the S.Antonino pothole, a natural cavity of the ground which is about 20 meters deep.
Pignone is famous in the whole region for its production of sausages: in 2003 the
Pignone sausages
were included in the regional atlas of the traditional local products.
Pignone is about a kilometer and a half far from
La Spezia, very famous for its Military Arsenal, conceived in 1857 by Camillo Benso Count of Cavour and planned by Domenico Chiodo who concluded it in 1869.
