The 5 Terre

The landscape of the Cinque Terre has been modified by the man's action in the course of hundreds of years, building up, metre after metre, more than 6000 kilometers of dry-stone walls, that is, without using any binder.

These terracings are covered with vineyards which produce a typical wine as unique as the place where they are set.

The Cinque Terre belong to the worldwide cultural and environmental heritage of the Unesco; at present they are a National Park and a Protected Sea Area which aim to preserve the local culture, traditions and environment and to enhance the biological resources.

Starting from La Spezia, the sequence of the little villages of the Cinque Terre includes Riomaggiore, then Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso with their cliffs falling sheer to the sea, the typical houses and the sanctuaries, the panoramic paths which seep into the hinterland and link one to the other the different villages.

The best way to discover the Cinque Terre is to go by foot, following the several available trails; for the return journey instead, it it useful to take the train which offers a frequent cadence and stops in each station of the different resorts.
