The hiking trails


Sentiero cinque terre
The position of Pignone is the ideal place where to stay if you want to visit both the

Cinque Terre National Park

(at present Protected Area) and the city of

La Spezia

and its surroundings.

But if you love Nature and prefer a contact with it, there are several natural hiking trails you can discover and go along! There are also many trails for mountain-bike lovers!

The Cinque Terre National Park is crossed by different trails marked by the CAI.

Trail N.1 belonging to the CAI of La Spezia,

Red Trail

: it goes across the Cinque Terre starting from Portovenere and reaching Levanto. The 40 kilometers in length must not frighten you as the trail includes different points where you can stop and take breath again.

Trail N.2 belonging to the CAI of La Spezia,

Blue Trail

: it to-stay-in-italyRiomaggiore to Monterosso; it is 12 kilometers in length, it doesn' t present any particular difficulty and at the beginning, starting from Riomaggiore, it includes the famous Via dell'Amore path.

Trail N.6 belonging to the CAI of La Spezia,

Karst caves

: this trail begins with the visit of a big Karst cavity, the more complex of the whole province of La Spezia, called Grotta Grande (Big Cave), but which can be explored only with the guide of local and expert speleologists. At the entrance of the cave, you will be taught the Karstic phenomenon and the fauna and the flora which live in it. Going on along the trail you will reach the "Palestra nel verde" , formed by five pieces of equipment; it will also be possible to admire the famous dry-stone walls, characteristic of the Cinque Terre area. You will discover the ruins of two ancient limekilns and the socalled Fornace cave. After having walked for about half an hour, you will reach the ancient aqueduct source and the oasis of the ancient mills. Going down the torrent it is possible to admire the aqueduct bridge dating back at the sixteenth century and the ruins of the Duce mill built in 1859.

Localitā Madonna del Ponte

(Madonna of the bridge resort): here you will visit a characteristic little church dating back at the eighteenth century and the close perennial water source.

The pothole and the village of Casale

: along this trail you will discover a second Karst formation made by a pothole of about 20 metres in depth, two caves and an enormous dolina called "Buā". Going on along the trail and then on asphalted street you will reach the village of Casale, known as ancient mining seat because of the presence of an abandoned manganese quarry in the Cerchiara area.

La Strada dei Santuari

(The Sanctuaries path) is an itinerary which to-stay-in-italyone to the other the different Sanctuaries of the five villages of the Cinque Terre; it is practicable by car reaching the hamlet of Volastra (situated directly above Manarola) and it goes on until Monterosso. Here you can find a list of the five Sanctuaries:
1. Riomaggiore - Santuario di Nostra Signora di Montenero;
2. Manarola - Santuario di Nostra Signora della Salute;
3. Corniglia - Santuario di Nostra Signora delle Grazie;
4. Vernazza - Santuario di Nostra Signora di Reggio;
5. Monterosso - Santuario di Nostra Signora di Soviore.
